Winkreative delivered the digital strategy and website design for its sister publication, Monocle, for its launch in 2007. The Monocle web and broadcast director was then briefed to oversee development, production and coordinate content from the Monocle editorial team.
The core strategy for the website was to provide a video and rich media layer offering related material to the magazine’s printed content – avoiding simple repurposing of articles. Online video formats include Q&As, reportage and special editions that provide engaging added value content that encourages viewers to forward on and link to directly as a means to expand the reach of the brand.
The second tier of monocle.com is an online archive of the print edition with a series of tools that allow subscribers to search efficiently and control content.
Additional modules have been added since launch by the magazine’s dedicated web team, including the Monocle online shop and podcasts in the form of the Monocle Weekly.
